The Walled Garden At Holkham

We visited the 'Walled Garden' at Holkam during a recent holiday in north Norfolk. We've been before on several occasions and each time we visit, the garden has been developed even more. The garden is an ongoing restoration project, named the 'Beyond The Walls Restoration Project'. The aim is to restore the beautiful garden for future generations to enjoy. 

It truly is a hidden gem and just as the guide book describes it - 'step through the ornate Victorian gates to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, stunning array of flowers, seasonal fruit and vegetables and beautiful colours and scent.' 

June was a fabulous time to visit with a stunning wildflower display on our way to the garden and many of the flowering plants in bloom. Catmints, roses, geraniums, rock roses, sweet williams, cornflowers and delphiniums being just a few. I think the rose garden was the star of the show on this visit, out in first and full bloom it made a stunning display of all rose varieties. Having said that the sweet peas were rather beautiful too and then the old greenhouse areas - packed full of sweet williams, cornflowers, delphiniums... mmm... very difficult to choose a favourite.

Perfect Flowers for a Summer Wedding...

We have just celebrated our daughter's wedding and of course flowers play a huge part in adding to the sparkle, ambience, scent and beauty of a perfect wedding day.

We chose pale pastel colours as a theme with an eclectic mix of lilac, pink and cream roses, peonies, gypsophilas, carnations, stephanotis, freesias, lisianthus, and wild clover amongst the arrangements.

The bride's bouquet, bridesmaids' and flowergirl's bouquets were made of fresh roses, lisianthus and gypsophila  and the corsages and buttonholes were similar and mixed with rosemary and stephanotis. 

The table displays were a mix of vintage jars full of delphiniums, peonies and gypsophilas and wood slices with displays of gypsophilas, roses, daisies and wild clover. 

The church flowers and pews were lined with pink roses, white daisies and pale pink and white peonies. We were able to use several of these after to add to the floral displays at the reception. 

We had a beautiful oasis of mixed roses, pink clover, peonies and gypsophylia on the main wedding table. Lilac, pink and white roses were used to decorate the cake and matched the bridal party's bouquets.

The flowers made stunning displays to decorate our home the day after the wedding in readiness for more family celebrations of the marriage. 

The bride and groom gave me a gorgeous bouquet, which matched the other wedding flowers beautifully! We've shared many of the wedding flowers out amongst family and friends - it is lovely to share flowers that hold such happy memories! I've kept a few too, so I'm still enjoying them and enjoying recollecting all my thoughts about the day!
